Infrared (IR) saunas use low-temperature infrared wavelengths to heat the body directly vs warming the air around you, like traditional saunas do. IR rays are the good part of the sun’s rays, without the damaging UV rays. The radiant heat deeply penetrates the skin aiding in a number of restorative body processes.

Infrared rays are part of the invisible light spectrum and is what you feel as warmth from the sun without the harmful UV rays. The Luminary offers a 4-person full spectrum Infrared Sauna with medical grade chromotherapy and can be booked privately or as a group. Full spectrum means the entire Infrared spectrum of near, mid and far wavelengths are used ensuring that you receive the whole benefit of radiant infrared heat penetrating deep into your body’s tissues and muscles.
In our sauna the IR rays heat your body directly rather than the air like a traditional steam sauna. Approximately 80% of the rays are heating your body and 20% the air so there is little humidity. If you get too warm, you can lower the base temp or open the doors for a few minutes as the IR heaters will continue to heat your body. Warming your body aids in stimulating your immune, cardiovascular and lymphatic systems, which will cause you to sweat. The average temperature in a steam sauna is above 200 degrees and humid. The IR sauna’s base temp is set at 158 degrees as this ensures the infrared heaters stay on the entire time, maximizing your benefit. However, the air temperature will only reach between 115-125 degrees and you are able to adjust the temperature to your preference.
Clearlight Infrared Saunas are made of cedar wood which is naturally anti-fungal and anti-microbial. Per the manufacturer, they are also the only saunas that cancel out both electromagnetic fields (EMF) and extremely low frequency (ELF), a concern many have when trying to detox. The EMF levels are virtually zero mg and ELF levels are 3-5 times below the threshold of concern. Additionally, there are no toxic glues or adhesives used to build the sauna, so you can truly enjoy a toxic-free environment while detoxing your body!
Research has demonstrated multiple health benefits ranging from muscle and joint pain or stiffness relief, improved muscle recovery, increased metabolism, weight loss, immune boosting, decreased inflammation, appearance of cellulite, stress and fatigue. Infrared Saunas are effective in detoxing the body. So effective that firefighters are now starting to use them post incident to lower their carcinogenic load. This past summer, my father and grandmother used this exact sauna to aid in their recovery from Lyme disease with good results. Check out the research tab to find out more!
The positive effects are mostly noticed when used multiple times. You may not notice a difference after only one time, but you sure will feel relaxed!
Every session includes medical-grade chromotherapy and binaural beats or music.
Your skin will love you after this. 10-min Halotherapy session followed by a 40-min FSIR Sauna. Get ready to…Let It Glow, Let it Glow!

The use of chromotherapy, binaural beats or music are included in the base price for all sauna sessions!
Chromotherapy (Color Light Therapy)* – the science that uses the seven colors of the visible light spectrum to affect the vibrations of the body’s various frequencies and neurohormonal pathways like dopamine and serotonin. Chromotherapy has been effectively used for years in the treatment of Seasonal Affective Disorder. It is thought that color therapy has roots in Ayurveda (India), ancient Egyptian culture and traditional Chinese healing. Alternative medicine practitioners who use chromotherapy often relate the seven colors of the color spectrum to specific body areas. There is a guide available in the sauna room to assist you in choosing your color(s) or you can simply choose whichever color you naturally gravitate towards!
Binaural Beats* – a form of sound wave therapy when one ear hears a frequency different than the other ear, but your brain hears them as one frequency. They typically run on 5 frequencies that relate to brain wave activity and subsequent behavior and sleep.
Music options – choose from the playlists available in the electronic-safe compartment inside the sauna. Or, connect your device to the Bluetooth speakers and access your own playlist!
*Avoid if you have epilepsy or other seizure disorders triggered by light.
Drink at least 16 oz of water and bring a water bottle with you to drink as you need while in the sauna. Don’t worry, a robe is provided, and the bathroom is close if needed. It’s important to be hydrated and at any time if you feel dizzy or faint, leave the sauna immediately.
Avoid eating a big meal prior to your session as you could get a less effective result when your body is diverting some of its energy towards digestion
Arrive at least 15 minutes before your appointment time for paperwork or questions. Enjoy a complimentary beverage and relax while using a Himalayan salt foot dome in the waiting area. Once checked in, you will be shown to your sauna room where you can change into loose fitting clothes.
Never spray/apply or use any sort of fragrance/oil/topical in the sauna or the outside room. There will be 3 Towels in the sauna, 2 smaller towels one to wipe perspiration and the other for your feet and 1 larger towel you can fold over for more cushion to sit on. There will also be a fresh towel outside the sauna to dry off.

Plan to have a few glasses of water afterward. This will help to lower potential discomfort you may experience from your body detoxing (first timers). which may occur up to 2 hours after your session. This will also help avoid dehydration (uncommon) if you’re not well hydrated prior to the session.
Make sure to check out all the goodies available in the retail area and then head to the front desk to schedule your next session.
IR Saunas are very different from traditional steam saunas. Traditional saunas are humid, moist and have an average temperature of 220 degrees. They heat the air around you that in then heats your body. Whereas, The Luminary’s infrared sauna heats 80% of the body directly and 20% the surrounding air. So, when the temperature is set at 158degrees the air temperature is 115-125degrees. The positive effects of Infrared heat have been researched often! Check out the research tab to see some of the benefits associated specifically Infrared radiant heat ranging from detoxification to immune-boosting to decreasing inflammation and stimulate muscle recovery.
Avoid eating a large meal an hour prior to your session and remember to hydrate! Drink at least 8oz of water before you arrive and bring an insulated mug of water with you to drink during your radiant session.
Avoid applying any lotions or topicals prior to use as they can block pores or the infrared heat can potentially activate an ingredient in your product.
It is best to wear loose clothing that allows your body to breathe and remember to towel off during your session to allow your body to perspire more freely.
Persons using medications should consult with their medical provider before using the sauna since some medications may induce drowsiness while others may affect heart rate, blood pressure and circulation or make you in/sensitive to heat.
Infrared is so safe that many hospitals use infrared heaters to warm newborns. Interestingly, the human body naturally gives off and receives infrared heat in the far infrared band. When you rub/press your hands together you are generating far infrared waves of radiant heat! The True Wave™ Infrared heaters at The Luminary are specifically designed to give off those same far infrared waves, which maximizes your absorption for maximum therapeutic benefits.
It is generally recommended that if you are under 18 or over 70 years of age, you should maintain a lower temperature and not exceed 15-20 minutes at a time. As always, The Luminary recommends discussing/consulting any of your concerns with your medical provider prior to use.
No, the use of the IR sauna while pregnant is not recommended. There is not enough research on the effects of a developing fetus. It is also not recommended if you are breastfeeding as toxins are expelled through breast milk and you will detox with infrared sauna use.
